valentines day ideas for couples nighttime

When it comes to Valentine’s Day ideas for couples, the usual anecdotes spring to mind: Wine, chocolates, and candlelit restaurants… While there’s nothing wrong with any of them (who doesn’t love chocolate?!), they’re not the most original of ideas for your loved one! So naturally, we’ve taken the liberty of creating some fresh and exciting ideas for you and your loved one to try this Valentine’s Day…

Below are 7 unique Valentine’s Day ideas all with a little clue to tease your partner before the day of love arrives. This way you can add a little mystery into the buildup, and get your partner excited for what’s to come. This works especially well for couples craving a little more connection after the stressful year we’ve all had. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of these special ideas…

1. Picnic Under The Stars

First up on our unique Valentine’s Day ideas for couples is a picnic – with a difference. Have you ever had a picnic under the stars? No? Neither have we, and we think it might be quite magical. Gather some fairy lights, a few blankets, and start planning your favorite treats and drinks to fill your basket with. Don’t forget a good bottle of wine to help set the mood, either!

The Clue:

This might be the most obvious (but necessary!) one – the picnic basket. Leave it out in the kitchen the day before with a note saying: “fill me.” Watch your partner spend the next day frantically buying treats while you’ve secretly got everything sorted – including where the starry-eyed picnic will be! Your partner will love the mystery and all the extra effort you went to for them.

2. Champagne On The River

While champagne is most certainly not a new Valentine’s Day idea, we doubt many have tried to pop a bottle of bubbly on a boat with their babe! Ooooh – try saying that a few times quickly! We recommend a private day cruise so you don’t have to worry about steering the boat after a few glasses of champagne… However, if you’d prefer to take the wheel (or helm!), make sure you both have some time to chill in between to keep the romance alive.

The Clue:

These gorgeous stainless steel champagne flutes – ideal for traveling by boat! They come in a set of two and in a choice of gold, silver, or rose gold – we think the latter is ideal for Valentine’s Day! Present them in a pretty box the morning of your trip, and ask your partner to guess where you’re going… It’ll drive them crazy that they can’t figure it out!

Whether you find a local drive-in movie to take your partner to, or you want to set one up in your backyard with a projector – this is a wonderful way to bring a little spark back into your relationship. Drive-ins are renowned for ample cuddle time, lots of snacks, and a good cry or two – depending on the movie! It’s a perfect excuse to snuggle up to your spouse and bond over a chick flick or two!

The Clue:

A movie theater snack box, just like this one from Etsy! Start off by spending the day out with your partner doing their Valentine’s Day plans. When you return home, ask them to go back to the car to fetch your bag (or anything else you might have ‘forgotten’) – make sure the movie box is there waiting on the seat for them! Get back in the car and take them to wherever you’ve decided your movie night’s going to take place!

Sometimes, in order to connect we need to disconnect. This is exactly why this particular Valentine’s Day ideas for couples is the ideal choice. Either book yourselves into a glamper van experience for the weekend or pack up the trunk with some camping gear to create a truly authentic experience. Whatever you decide, try your best to leave WIFI out of the picture. Finding other ways to connect without technology will create a new kind of spark for your relationship – we promise!

The Clue:

An enamel mug pretty much encompasses the whole concept of camping, so why not create a personalized one as the ultimate clue for your partner? Write a sweet note or name and date the mug from when you met and add a drawing that connects the two of you. Bring it to your partner with their morning coffee and let them know it’s a clue for the day ahead – brownie points if they guess right!

5. Roleplay At A Hotel

Taking a leaf out of Modern Family’s Phil and Claire’s book, sometimes it can be really fun to do something really out of your comfort zone with your partner. Yes, you might feel silly or self-conscious at first, but once you realize you’re doing it with the person you love, the awkwardness will fall away. The whole purpose of roleplay is to play a character you wouldn’t usually be… So, effectively, you get to ‘meet your partner again’. It’s a foolproof way to bring some new spice into the relationship – whilst having a whole lot of fun!

The Clue:

On the morning of Valentine’s Day, put on some silky pj’s that will capture your partner’s attention. Ask them to look in their drawer and follow the directions (to the hotel you’ve booked, of course!) and let them know you’ll see them later. Let them follow the different clues you’ve left them – including what to wear and ‘who’ they’ll be meeting and they’ll figure the rest out… They won’t be able to stop thinking about you and when you see each other again… You’re guaranteed to feel those butterflies once again!

The Clue:

This is by far our favorite clue, and for good reason, too! Before you’ve told your partner what’s in store for their Valentine’s Day, place a Convokin with their coffee and ask them to answer the question and let them know it’s a clue for the rest of the day. If you’re feeling creative, dot a few around the house to keep them entertained while you prepare the three-course meal. Once you’ve set your table for your loved one, pick out some Convokins to get some weird and wonderful conversation flowing in between the meals – your partner will really appreciate the extra efforts you went to make the day feel special!
