Get Creative with Themes

Although a party theme may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re trying to think of some unique Sunday brunch ideas, they can take your brunch to new levels!

You could try a “beach theme” and serve drinks like piña colada and other tropical cocktails. Another great idea is a “backyard picnic theme” that includes ready-to-eat food such as fried chicken sandwiches.

Here are a few of our favorite lazy Sunday brunch theme ideas for 2023:

  • Bagel Bar Theme (What says Sunday morning snacks then some artisanal bagels)
  • Morning Toast Theme (Toast, french toast, cinnamon toast, avocado toast, eggs on toast the possibilities are endless.)
  • Color Coordinated Theme (From decorations to food to outfits, this theme can get pretty involved)
  • BYO Bar Theme (Everyone brings their favorite mixers for Sunday brunch drinks)

No matter what type of theme you choose, the possibilities are endless when it comes to creating the perfect brunch atmosphere.

Add in Some Fun (and easy) Activities

Spice things up even more by adding in some activities! Get people talking with outdoor games such as cornhole or badminton. Bring out some board games for those who prefer something more leisurely, or rent a projector screen for movies if it gets chilly outside.

For a more personal interactive activity, create a DIY Mimosa Bar. All you’ll need are some mimosa mixes (or make your own!), garnishes like oranges and blueberry and strawberries, plenty of ice, and lots of bubbles! Invite guests to craft their own drinks however they want!

To make this activity super easy, you can use a full mimosa bar kit, which includes everything you need to set up a unique cool mimosa bar! All you need to do is buy the toppings and bubbles!

Choose The Right Setting

With all the themes and activities in place, now it’s time to choose the perfect venue for your Sunday brunch. Whether you’re hosting at home or at want to plan for an outdoor brunch space, you’ll want to make sure there’s enough seating for everyone.

If you’re planning on throwing a larger party, then it’s probably going to be better to host somewhere other than your home. You can try renting out a local park or beach so you’ll have plenty of space.

For a more intimate or smaller brunch gathering, your own backyard is the perfect spot (Not to mention probably the easiest). This is the ideal place for your lazy Sunday brunch. It’s easy, stress-free and you don’t want to worry about cleaning up after your guests you can even have a company come out and clean up after the party!

No matter where you host your Sunday brunch party, one thing is for sure, it will be a memorable experience!

Choosing the Right Time

Next, you’ll want to think about the time frame for the brunch party. Brunch is typically served between 11am and 3pm, so that is what most people go with… HOWEVER, this is your party with your friends… So if you want to start the party at 4 pm, go for it! 5 pm? Why not?

The only time frames we wouldn’t recommend would be before 11am (No one wanted to get up early on a Sunday, especially because this is a LAZY Sunday brunch party). In addition to that, 5-6 pm is probably the latest you’ll want to start the party.

If you’re hosting a large group of people or need more time for activities and decorations, then a later start time might be best. If you’re looking for a more leisurely gathering, start the party closer to 2 or 3 pm when everyone can get comfy with their food and drinks while enjoying the day away!

No matter what time you choose to host your Sunday brunch, make sure there’s plenty of delicious food and drinks on hand!

Go With Lazy Food & Snacks

When it comes to planning a lazy Sunday brunch, you want to make sure that the food is easy to make and serve. A great way to do this is by setting up a BYO (Bring Your Own). This allows your guests to bring whatever they like, meaning the food prep doesn’t have to be as complex. Plus, it lets your guests get creative with their brunch dishes, which can make for some interesting combinations!

You don’t always have to rely on your guests bringing their own food either; there are plenty of simple brunch recipes you can whip up in no time at all. Things like french toast, omelets, quiches, and mac n’ cheese are all easy enough for anyone to make.

If you want something more substantial, sandwiches like egg salad and grilled cheese are always crowd-pleasers. For sweets, scones and muffins are simple yet delicious alternatives that can be enjoyed throughout the day and they can be bought at the store!

The options are truly endless when it comes to planning an easy Sunday brunch.
