1. Forgetting to Visit the Venue Beforehand

When it comes to choosing your baby shower venue, it’s imperative that you see it before the big day. Not only will it drive your excitement, but it’s also absolutely 100% necessary to your planning process. You’ll be able to work with the manager of the venue to help you bring your vision to life, as well as choose the layout and decorations you want in advance.

This works well for both parties as the venue will appreciate a clear plan from the get-go and for you, it will be one major thing to tick off your list – AND avoid arguably one of the most common baby shower planning mistakes! Oh, and if you’re hosting it at a friend’s place, it’s still a great idea to pay them a visit to map the layout together ahead of time.

Okay, so we know you’re a strong, independent woman who likes to handle things herself, and we commend you for that. Except you’re now planning your baby shower and you need help – no matter if you think you don’t. Now is the time to gather your girls and start delegating tasks. See! You still get to be the project manager but with a group of awesome women who want to help you have the best possible baby shower.

Whether you’re asking for help recording gifts or need assistance in the DIY department, your girls will have you covered. So, don’t be stubborn and pick up the phone now to avoid making this VERY common baby shower planning mistake!

3. Bypassing Memorable Entertainment

Once you’ve seen your venue and gathered your girls for support, it’s time to think about entertainment. These days, baby showers are more minimalist – which we’re a huge fan of! – so you’ll find new and unique ways to entertain your guests. You want them to mingle, right? Exactly. Therefore, top-quality entertainment is in order and we think we know just how to help you. Introducing…

Did Baby Poopie?

If you’re looking for a game to play with your baby shower guests, check out Did Baby Poopie? for some truly memorable and unique entertainment!

Wondering how to play? Hand the raffle cards out to each of your guests. Provide a coin so they can scratch their ticket off to reveal what’s underneath. If any player reveals a poop emoji, they’re instantly a winner and have to scream the word, “POOP!” From there, it’s up to you as the host what their prize will be.

4. Leaving Orders To The Last Minute

Possibly one of the worst baby shower planning mistakes to make is leaving everything to the last minute – especially when these are decorating items you need to finalize your baby shower’s theme and look. You never know what natural disaster (COVID, ahem!) might get in the way and cause delays, so it’s hugely important to order everything you need WAY ahead of time.

If possible, try to plan the full extent of your baby shower at least a month in advance – if not, two – so you can avoid the mad rush in the days running up to your big day.

5. Over-Inviting Guests

Last but not least is our incessant need to invite EVERYONE we know to our baby shower. Somewhat reminiscent of your wedding, choosing who to invite to your baby shower can be really difficult. More often than not, less is more. Our advice would be to take your list (and those extras you keep adding!) and highlight those you would consider as loved ones – mostly family and friends. Then, whittle down the rest to your closest work colleagues (if you want to invite them) and anyone else you feel has to be there.

Remember, this day is for YOU and your baby, so there’s no need to go overboard with your baby guestlist. Plus, an intimate affair with your nearest and dearest is far better than a room filled with randoms, right?
