With Christmas around the corner, jingle bells jingling and eggnogs brewing, what better time is there than right now to discover some new Christmas games for family this year? It may come as shock as we’re all a fan of the classics, but there are actually quite a few Christmas games out there that literally NONE of us has heard of!
Yes, that’s hard to believe, we know! So, we thought let’s take a little look online and find out exactly what kind of unique Christmas games are out there right now, and how many of them are actually any good? We went with a solid 15 games, and we’re pretty excited about them!
1. Christmas Bingo
First up, is the humble – and relatively well known! – Christmas bingo. While we’re all familiar with bingo (we all have a Granny who loved it!), Christmas bingo has a twist. There’s no need for big, empty halls and a spinning wheel of numbers – Christmas bingo can be done at home, with all the family around!
Simply print off some of these *printable* Christmas Bingo sheets, hand them out to each individual at your Christmas party and away you go! Nominate the speaker and the rest will fall into place! Be sure to come up with a creative, Christmassy word for BINGO! though!
2. Inflatable Reindeer Ring Toss:
This has to be one of the best Christmas games for family we’ve discovered! There is literally nothing more entertaining than blowing up a bunch of inflatables, sticking these reindeer horns on a couple of the kids’ heads and giving your best throw another chance!
You can even stick a little, red nose on Rudolph and take some pictures – it will be well worthwhile when they’re all grown up! The family can also take it in turns and give the kids a chance – though can you imagine how much fun this would be – either way?!
3. Convokins
Now, we may be a little biased here as this is one of our very own party games. Specifically designed with ice-breaking in mind, Convokins are THE conversation starter at parties – and they double as great quality, good looking napkins! Who doesn’t love a multi-purpose product?
The beauty of Convokins is how simple they are to use and turn into a game. Simply lay one at each table setting and go around the room, asking your guests to read their Convokin out loud. Get everyone to answer (honestly!) and await imminent laughter! It’s a foolproof way to play an easy Christmas game for family time, help your guests feel relaxed and get the party started!
4. What’s In The Stocking?
A slightly sweeter Christmas game alternative, What’s In My Stocking? is simply that. The aim is to guess what another family member or friend has put inside a stocking (wrapped gifts only!) correctly, and if you guess it right, you get to keep the gift!
There’s an option for everyone to fill a stocking to contribute to the game, or ask each guest to bring along one stocking filler and put them all in one stocking together! Either way, this is one of those lovely feel-good Christmas games for family – or friends! – and we’re here for it!
5. Christmas Charades
A take on another classic, Christmas charades is simply: Charades with a festive twist! The great thing is that now we have the internet, so many creatives have chosen to create printable game options (for all occasions!) and it couldn’t make our hosting lives any easier!
Simply print off these Christmas Charades templates, split your guests into two teams and give each team a sheet. Each player must act out one of the actions or songs until all are finished. The team with the most answers wins!
6. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza Game
Now this funny, little game is the epitomy of uniquely weird and wonderful Christmas games for family time! In a nutshell, it’s a card game with words and the first to get rid of all of their cards wins!
There are five words: “Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza” which each player of the game must chant in unison as they blindly play the card on the top of their deck. When one of these words matches the card that’s been put down, all players must put their hands on top of the card. The last person to do so must pick up the deck, and so on, until there is a winner. There are a couple more rules to the game, so be sure to check out the video below to get a better understanding! It’s absolutely hilarious, so definitely give it a shot this Christmas!
7. Build A Snowman
Building a snowman typically means dressing up in 100 layers and braving the freezing outdoors to stick a scarf and a carrot on a homemade snowman figure. This no longer has to be the case!
With this build-a-snowman kit, you can use any toy or makeshift snowman figure INSIDE your home, and it can be a fun game for all the family! Make it really interesting and have each guest wear a blindfold while attempting to dress the snowman – brilliant!

8. Christmas Scavenger Hunt
While we’re all familiar with scavenger hunts, these holiday Christmas versions do all the thinking for you! Instead of having to spend hours outdoors hiding various little tricks or treats, this Christmas scavenger hunt can be done in the comfort of your home.
Hand out a scavenger hunt list to each of your guests and set a timer. Ask everyone to go on their hunt around the house, ticking off each item as they find it. Once someone has found all of the items, they must come back to the hunt organizer and prove their findings! If all is correct, this persons wins and gets a prize – you get to decide what!
9. Advent Calendar Bowling
Before we started reading up on Christmas games for family time this year, we had no idea this existed! In essense, advent calendar bowling is where you take a bunch of cardboard cups or hats, line them up in a row of 24 (as they 24 days of Christmas goes!) and hide a little gift under each of them.
Give each guest a turn to ‘bowl’ over as many of the cups as they can, and they get to win every prize they reveal! This is a really sweet little game for all the family to enjoy – regardless of how small the prizes may be!
10. Christmas Edition: 20 Questions
By far one of the most economical games in history, 20 questions is an easy way to get some healthy competition flowing between family members – with very little effort!
Grab some pens and paper, and a little imagination and ask everyone involved to write a famous Christmas-related name onto their piece of paper. Ask everyone to fold up their papers and add them into a hat. One at at time (much like Charades) get one person to stick the paper onto their Christmas hat with some tape and they must their 20 yes or no questions ask around the group. The first person to win more than three names, wins!
11. Christmas Reindeer Pinata
While pinatas are typically associated with blindfolded birthdays and endless stick-whacking, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy one with family over the holidays! They’re especially great when you have a large group of youngsters in the family and want to keep them occupied for hours!
Hang your reindeer pinata hanging outside somewhere in the backyard – this way when they time comes for it to be hit down, all the goodies can fall freely outside – out of harms way!
12. Who Am I?
Similar to 20 questions, Who Am I? is a guessing game, but this one is Christmas edition! On top of that, you and your family to wear these funky little Santa sunglasses and capture some hilarious photos while you’re at it!
In a nutshell, ask each guest to wear a pair of Santa sunnies. In turn, each guest will pick out a Santa hat from a hat (see what we did there!) and click it onto their glasses – without seeing what it says! The person who guesses their person correctly first… Yes, you guessed it… Wins!
13. Pin The Nose On Santa
Derived from the family-favourite, Pin The Tail On The Donkey, this one is the Santa version! It’s a great Christmas game for the family to do together, whatever the age difference may be!
This particular set comes with two blindfolds, so you could even have two different generations trying to put on Santa’s hat at the same time, which we’re sure will provide endless entertainment for the rest of the family!
14. Christmas Movie Trivia
Based on the classic, Christmas Trivia is guaranteed to provide endless entertainment for you and your family this holiday season! This set comes with six different mini games, all under the topic of Christmas and its history!
Set up a cozy area around the fire, divide your guests into groups and let the games begin! The set really does it all for you – all you and your family have to do is bring your A-game to win!
15. Human Christmas Tree
Last but most certainly not least, we have a new tradition brewing: The Human Christmas Tree! It’s based on the same notion as gathering the family together at the start of December to decorate their chosen Christmas tree, but this time, it’s a human!
Nominate a family member to be said tree, and give them a big, old green jersey to wear. Grab the fairy lights, tinsels and streamers and away you go! Be sure to grab some pictures of the process – it’ll be hilarious to look back on over the years!
